CHASE TAG Years 5-10 (Terms 1 and 2)
Venue: Kilbirnie Recreation Centre
Times: Monthly Fridays, Late afternoon
Dates: 28/2, 28/3, 11/4, 23/5; 27/6.
Every team needs to have a team manager.
The first two sessions are skill sessions going over the basics of chase tag.
What is chase tag?
Here is the gist of the game:
- Objective: One player (the “chaser”) tries to tag the other player (the “evader”) within a set time limit, typically 20-30 seconds.
- Arena: Played in a square, padded arena with obstacles that players can use to avoid being tagged.
- Players: Six players per team, but only one from each team playing at a time as the chaser and evader.
- Rules:
- The evader must avoid the chaser by running, jumping, and using obstacles.
- The chaser must try to tag the evader using speed, strategy, and agility.
- The evader is not allowed to leave the playing area.
- A tag is when the chaser’s hand makes contact with the evader’s body.
- Time limit: Usually 20-30 seconds for each round.
- Victory: The evader wins if they survive the time limit without being tagged. The chaser wins if they successfully tag the evader. In most games only points are awarded when the evader gets away, however there are variations of the game.
- Switching roles: A successful tag results in that player becoming the evader for the next round and no points being awarded. A successful evasion results in that player’s team scoring a point, and the evader retaining that role for the next round. The losing player is replaced by a teammate who chases.
- Chase tag is all about speed, strategy, and agility! Similar to parkour.
