News | Congratulations to our AIMS Games Students!

A big congratulations to the 37 students who did a superb job of representing SWIS at the AIMS Games in Mount Maunganui last week. Not only did they do well on the field, but also showed fantastic manaakitanga, supporting each other with great gusto from the sidelines too.

Our girls’ football team achieved 3rd in their pool group, putting them through to the plate competition. After dominating throughout, they lost the final in a nailbiting penalty shoot out.

After the shell shock of the first game, the boys’ football team settled in well and started playing for each other. They were linking passes and moving well into attacking positions. They had 11 games in 5 days, won 4, drew 1 and lost 6, finishing 31st out of 50 teams.

Our netballers played three games a day culminating in play-offs on the last day. The girls dug deep and made the most of this amazing opportunity on and off the court.

Jaiden, our golfer, performed consistently well throughout the 3 rounds of golf finishing in the top half of the competition.

The students did an amazing job fundraising to get themselves and their support crew up to Mount Maunganui for the week, and we are particularly grateful to the parents who took a week off work to support our students whilst up there too.

SWIS was wonderfully represented by two football teams – Eva, Megan, Lorna, Lucy, Lena, Natasha, Ava, Rewa, Pearl, Malia, Rosa, Flora, Ahaana, Eli, Oliver, Xavier, Mack, Fraser, Jai, Zach, Dexter, Isaac, Mateja, Gaston, Rudi, and Mikey, a netball team – Maddi, Sylvie, Ruby, Anna, Penina, Faith, Matilda, Lavinia, Kiriata, and Astyn, and our golfer, Jaiden.

Certificates were given out at the games already, but we will celebrate these students during assembly today!

A big thank you to everyone who supported this event, particularly the parents who helped with organising, fundraising, and those who attended the week with the kids. We really appreciate your time and effort!
